Terms that have earned their place
- Topping
- Adding wine to a partly filled barrel to replace losses and reduce the headspace above the liquid.
- Oxidation
- Chemical change involving electron transfer, often promoted by oxygen exposure in wine.
- Free sulfur dioxide
- The unbound sulfur dioxide pool; its molecular fraction depends strongly on pH.
