Method & evidence

Serious enough to cite. Relaxed enough to enjoy.

Willie’s Wine Lessons teaches useful mental models: how wine works, why it tastes the way it does, and how to reason through an unfamiliar bottle.

01

Learn before you taste

From Level 2 onward, meet the wine and grape, learn the governing idea, vocabulary, and limitations, then taste and apply the model.

02

Cause before catalogue

Climate, grape, and production form connected explanations. Memorised lists are supporting actors, not the plot.

03

Evidence with boundaries

Facts, professional conventions, interpretations, and preferences are labelled honestly. Exceptions are taught in proportion.

04

Humour punches up

The target is pretension, unsupported certainty, and ritual without reason—never the learner, their budget, or their senses.

Responsible participation

Wine is optional. Safety is not.

Small tasting pours, water, food, spit cups, and alcohol-free participation belong in the course from the start. No educational goal requires finishing a glass. Plan safe transport before tasting.

How sources are used

Lesson claims begin with universities, peer-reviewed research, international technical bodies, public archives, and official regional institutions. Promotional sources are used for a region’s own history or stated style—not as proof that every bottle tastes alike. Links are provided on each lesson page, and uncertainty remains visible where evidence is incomplete.
